Is anybody else as excited about Choke as I am? It's coming out this Friday and I'm really impressed with the casting! Sam Rockwell is the perfect choice for the lead and it looks like they're following the Fight Club formula i.e. taking a lot of the lead's internal dialogue directly from the book which is what made Fight Club so great in first place. Also, I saw this bumper sticker yesterday and it's still bugging me.
I'm not a political guy at all but I saw this bumper sticker and it was done like a campaign sticker with the name of the president and vice president of choice superimposed over an American flag with and '08 after it. But the weird thing is it said for the candidates of choice A Hero/ A Fake '08. Now here's my problem. Who are they talking about and what's their point? Are they saying, "McCain is a hero, wait no, he's a fake!"? Or are they saying that McCain is a hero but his running mate, Palin is a fake. OK, that makes more sense I guess. Or are they saying that Obama is a working class hero but Biden is a fake? That would also make sense but it raises even more questions like are you for or against these candidates? Are you saying McCain and that fake should totally get elected! Or is it sarcasm? This is my problem with society these days:
Everybody is so "clever".
We're all so steeped in satyre (And I love satyre!) that no one can make a point without going all Colbert. It's this idea that you MUST become what you hate to expose it or make a "clever" statement about society and all the psuedo-intellectuals can give each other knowing glancing and applaud when Bill Mahr says Americans are stupid and we're applauding it but we're American so really we're applauding that we're stupid but we know it so that makes it OK and somehow doesn't make us stupid for doing it when really that should be the definition of stupidity. Or is it that we are the thing we hate and the only way out is to expose ourselves through absurdity? I know I am. See? This is why I hate politics.
(But I love Stephen Colbert and Bill Mahr.)

OR, it's actually a sticker for the band A Hero and A Fake. Kind of like when Yo La Tengo had "Yo La Tengo For President" stickers a few years back. I would so vote for Yo La Tengo for president.
Laura - I have a Yo La Tengo for President sticker on my car still, from 2004! They didn't become commander in chief, but that didn't stop them from commanding my heart.
